Join us at Where The Wild Things Are Bookstore for a graphic novel panel featuring Trent Jamieson, Bethany Loveridge, and Kylie Howarth.
At this panel, we have three completely different voices in graphic novel creation. We are excited to welcome Western Australia author and illustrator Kylie Howarth. Kylie has created across picture books, children's novels and graphic novels, often writing and illustrating a story. Bethany Loveridge is the publisher of the new Parenti Press, a graphic novel imprint of Wombat Books. Bethany has a background as a teacher and curriculum adviser, and has written picture books and children's novels. Trent is the co-creator and writer of the comedic comic series Frog, Log and Dave. Before this, Trent's experience lay in writing fantasy novels for adults, so he brings interesting and unique storytelling methods into the graphic novel world.
Between these three creators, you'll get a unique perspective on the graphic novel industry. We'll discuss what makes a good graphic novel, tease out the challenges of successfully telling a story through visual literacy, and explore how we can help adults better understand the value of graphic novels.
This discussion will be useful for both creators interested in making graphic novels and educators who would like to utilise graphic novels more effectively. You'll come away with ideas and recommendations for great graphic novels, as well as insights into the industry's direction. Children are welcome.
